American Airlines
Spectrum provided the design of electrical systems for Chicago O'Hare Int'l Terminal Concourse K.

CTA Randolph/Wabash Elevated Train Station
This project provided new CTA offices and auxiliary station facilities and a new CTA station at 151 North Wabash to replace two existing stations. Local funds (TIF) were used to finance this project.
Spectrum provided the design of the following systems:
  • Power Distribution System; including the service entry switchboard, reliable service and transfer scheme, short circuit calculations, and coordination study.
  • Lighting Systems; including the selection of lighting fixtures, lighting control, and lighting fixture installation details for typical areas.
  • CTA Special Systems; including fare control, public address system, train arrival annunciation, monitoring of station essential services, grounding system, heat tracing system for pipe protection, fire alarm system, supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA).

CTA Red Line Dan Ryan Initiative
The project included replacement of the Red Line special trackwork, contact rail, train control system and communication system from 95th Street Interlocking to Cermak Station.
Spectrum provided the design of the following systems:
  • Survey of existing Red Line stations electrical power distribution system and collection of existing documents.
  • Preparation of plans for the demolition and relocation/modification of existing electrical equipment.
  • Providing AC normal power and reliable power to Signal Relay Houses and contact rail heat tracing controllers.
  • Providing heat tracing cable and equipment for the contact rail.

CTA Blue Line / Douglas Traction Power Substations Rehabilitation Program
This project provided two new substations and necessary improvements to three existing substations.

Spectrum Engineering, Inc. is the electrical consultant for this project providing the design and construction support services. The scope of services included the following:
  • Preparation of drawings for new 17th and Harding substations.
  • Preparation of drawings for all equipment replacement for Hermitage substation.
  • Preparation of drawings for transformers and cabling replacement for 54th substation.
  • Preparation of drawings for cabling replacement for Douglas substation.
  • Provided technical assistance for new cabling and miscellaneous substation details.
  • Coordinated factory procurements of all substation equipment.

CTA Blue Line / Douglas Rehabilitation Program
This project provided "value added" design alternatives for six Douglas stations with a total net construction cost of $6 million.
Spectrum Engineering, Inc. conducted extensive platform lighting study and provided design of lighting, lighting control, public address, power and infrared heating and associated electrical wiring.
Spectrum provided the following services:
  • Developing platform prototype / schematics
  • Developing special interest lighting features
  • Meetings with CTA's Advisory Committee
  • Establishing a menu of "value added" lighting design alternatives.
  • Lighting mock up was built with the help of CTA maintenance personal under Spectrum Engineering, Inc. direction to assist Advisory Committee in selecting the recommended lighting system.

Illinois Department of Transportation
Spectrum provided the design of power distribution and control for these pump statons:
  • Station #1 - State Line and Kingery Road.
  • Station #2 - Edens Expressway near Skokie River.
  • Station #3 - Edens North Branch of the Chicago River.

Lakefront Millennium Project
This project consisted of three distinct areas; an all season park with its auxiliary facilities, a 2,400 car parking structure, and a newly enclosed METRA facility in the downtown Chicago area.
Spectrum provided the following services for METRA and NICTD stations:
  • Survey of existing METRA Randolph station electrical power distribution system and collection of existing documents.
  • Preparation of Plans for METRA/NITCD site demolition and relocation/modification of existing electrical equipment.
  • Study of Power Distribution Alternatives for new ventilation and lighting systems.
  • Design of new normal and emergency power services, life safety system, public address system, control and monitoring systems for piping freeze protection.
  • Preparation of construction specifications and staging schedules.
  • Services for the parking structure included the design of the Power Distribution System with service entry switchgear, emergency generator, and transfer schemes.
  • Special Systems including fare control, public address system, closed circuit TV, and security.
  • Heat Tracing Systems for pipe protection and snow melting system.
  • Fire Alarm System.
